“The Official Counterfeiter” Featured in Major Article

Believing that The Official Counterfeiter was an exceptional educational tool in an election season that is often focused on economics and the Federal Reserve System, I obtained permission from Vic Lockman to convert his cartoon booklet to an online document.  It became the focus of the first post on Scripural Scrutiny on January 27, 2012.  Download the free PDF here.  On January 31, 2012, Gary North made The Official Counterfeiter available on GaryNorth.com with this heading:

The Official Counterfeiter (1969): A Classic Cartoon Booklet on The Federal Reserve System Is Now Online

Along with his title, Mr. North said, “This is the most effective brief explanation of the FED that I have ever seen. . . .

We appreciate Mr. North’s invaluable assistance in publicizing Vic Lockman’s little gem!  Mr. North also published an article on the Federal Reserve System, featuring information on The Official Counterfeiter, which is now available on LewRockwell.com.  This major article on the Federal Reserve System is titled Ben Bernanke:  The Official Counterfeiter.   Here is a brief excerpt from his article and a link to the rest:

Back in 1969, a Disney cartoonist sat down at his story board and produced a booklet that the Disney organization never saw: The Official Counterfeiter. It was a presentation of fractional reserve banking and the role of the Federal Reserve System.

His name was Vic Lockman. As far as I know, he was the first cartoonist ever to do a booklet based on the Austrian theory of the business cycle. He revised the booklet in 1974. It is now back online.

It is a shame that he did not do a version of this booklet for one of the Scrooge McDuck comic books. He wrote stories for Uncle Scrooge.
